5 Spring Tips for a Green Lawn

Spring is in the air in Dayton, Ohio, and lawn care season is almost upon us. If you get a good jump on your yard duties, you can ensure a more lush, green lawn when summer rolls around. Here are five tips from the team at Lawn Plus LLC to get you off on the right foot.

Ready the Equipment

Your mower has been stored all winter and likely needs a few things to get it ready for the new season. Check your air filter, spark plugs, and oil levels before starting it up. Also, it’s a good idea to make sure that your blades are sharp and balanced for a nice, even cut.

Clean and Rake

You likely cleaned your yard up in the fall, but there’s a good chance there are some new leaves, sticks, or other debris that could be removed. You’ll also want to rake over your yard to help remove thatch.

Aerate the Lawn

Our lawns can get really packed down over the winter months, and this makes it harder for your grass to thrive. Aeration creates air pockets so that oxygen, hydration, and other nutrients have a better chance of reaching the roots of your lawn.

Overseed Bare Patches

You may have bare spots due to heavy traffic from people or pets. It’s a good idea to apply seed in the springtime to help fill in those areas. You don’t just have to stick to those spots. You apply seeds to your entire lawn to help achieve a fuller look in the summer.

Use Weed Prevention

Lastly, get ahead of those pesky weeds. Depending on your situation, you may need a pre-emergent or post-emergent weed control option. Some weeds are easier to stop before they start, and others need to be treated after they’ve started growing. It may be best to contact a lawn care professional if your lawn needs additional help.
