Ash trees make a beautiful addition to your yard, and the shade they provide can help reduce home energy costs. Unfortunately, over 40 million of these trees in Michigan alone have seen the devastating effects of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Before you find yourself with an infestation, let the experienced crew at Lawn Plus LLC help to protect the health of your ash trees with our EAB treatments. The Emerald Ash Borer is an Asian, wood-boring beetle that was discovered in Detroit, Michigan, in 2002. While it is no bigger than a penny, this invasive pest has caused considerable economic and environmental damage throughout Ohio – including many areas near Dayton. Female insects lay eggs inside the tissue of the tree, then larvae chew through the underside of the bark, starving the tree of nutrients, while adults feed on the leaves.
Signs of an Infestation
Dieback in the tree canopy
New sprouts excessively forming from the tree’s base
D-shaped holes in the bark where beetles have exited
Woodpecker damage (they like to feed on the larvae)
According to the US Forest Service, EAB is fatal to an infested tree within three to five years, and there is no method of complete eradication. We frequently see trees that are too compromised to save, which is why we recommend you take preventative action with our biennial ash tree treatments. The products we use are environmentally friendly and 98% effective. Plus, the treatment will last for two years!
